Our Mission
The Human-AI Alliance (HAIA) Foundation works to ensure that artificial intelligence is developed and deployed in ways that serve the public interest. We do that through advocacy, public education, and direct engagement with the people writing the rules.
AI systems increasingly make or shape decisions that carry real weight — who gets hired, who gets credit, what information reaches whom. Those decisions deserve the same scrutiny we would apply to any other exercise of power. Our position is not that the technology should be resisted, but that it should be answerable.
Good governance is not a brake on useful technology. It is the condition under which people can trust it enough to adopt it.
Our Approach
Much of the public conversation about AI alternates between promotional hype and end-of-the-world alarm. Neither is much use to a school deciding whether to adopt a tool, a regulator drafting a rule, or a person who has just been turned down by an automated system.
We aim for the more useful register in between: what a given system actually does, who carries the consequences when it is wrong, and what recourse exists. That means working with the specifics rather than the abstraction, and being willing to say when a safeguard is real and when it is merely reassuring.
It also means working across boundaries. Standards written without the people who must apply them tend not to survive contact with practice, so we build relationships across civil society, industry, academia, and the public sector.
